再看看现实电影中扮演南茜一角的艾玛·罗伯茨。觉得她的姓氏有些耳熟吗？不要怀疑自己，没错，艾玛与奥斯卡影后朱莉娅·罗伯茨有着来自同一家族。有着相同血统的她们在演技方面是否也一脉相承呢？尽管我们的大嘴影后在事业巅峰之际退居家中努力造人，但她的光环却依旧照耀着身为侄女的艾玛。在电影《神探南茜》公布了主演名单之后，所有人的注意力都集中在了小主角艾玛的身上，不但时因为她将扮演与之年龄相符的明星侦探南茜，还缘于她是朱莉娅·罗伯茨的亲侄女。不知道这些是否有对这位初登银幕的小演员造成压力，但是从她的话语中却可以看出她对自己扮演南茜一角乐在其中。自信满满的艾玛曾在首映会上表示：“人们一定会喜欢她（艾玛所扮演的南茜）的，我看到很多小孩子现在正在看这本原著。”而制片人杰瑞也诚意拳拳地对媒体解释自己之所以选择这个时候尝试家庭主题的电影是因为自己希望为小孩子们做点什么，过去几年6月份上映的电影都是成人大片，他觉得孩子们也需要他们爱看的电影。这样他们可以与爸妈一起去电影院，关于南茜的原著早就问世了，但当他看到埃玛的时候，他才决定他有充分的支持可以拍这部片子了。
为了增加故事的复杂性和可看性，导演把故事背景从安静的河高小镇搬大了嘈杂的好莱坞。这次的冒险集中在暴毙的好莱坞女星的老宅子里，导演找来了《十二罗汉》和《十三罗汉》中有过上乘表现的设计师托尼·范宁为影片布景，打造出一个阴森而华丽的上世纪当红女性的大宅。对于宅子的改装剧组也颇花心思，房子里要有许多的暗门和秘道相连，这样南茜才能有足够的空间发挥其侦探头脑，观众才能被南茜带入一个不同寻常的世界。
